FreeCell went live two days ago. Because every card is face up, almost every deal can be won. So when you lose, there was usually a better line. Our new FreeCell strategy guide helps you find it.

Four things to remember

  • Plan from the first move. Find the Aces and twos and dig out the most deeply buried ones first.
  • Keep a free cell open. With every cell full, one awkward card can end the game.
  • Empty columns double your reach. How many cards you can move at once is (free cells + 1) × 2 for every empty column, so with four free cells and one empty column you can move ten.
  • Don't park high cards. A King or Queen in a free cell tends to stay there.

The guide also covers building tidy runs and what to do when you're stuck.
